Luiz Camargo received his Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine at Universidade Estadual de Londrina (1992), his Masters in Science in Veterinary Pathology at Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (1995), his PhD in Animal Science at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2005) and his post-doctorate in gene editing at University of California-UC Davis (2019). He was a visiting scientist at Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC)-Agricultural Research Service-USA in 2004. He has been researcher at Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) since 1997. His research is focused on reproductive biotechnologies applied to vitro embryo production and embryo development, heat stress in oocytes and embryos, and genetic engineering and gene editing in embryos of domestic species. Currently he is also a professor and advisor of graduate programs of Veterinary Medicine at Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), Biological Sciences (Genetics and Biotechnologies) at Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), and Reproduction, Animal Health and Welfare at Universidade Jose do Rosário Vellano (Unifenas).
