Dr. Chika Ezeanya Esiobu’s work centers around the significance of Africa’s Indigenous knowledge in the continent’s idea of progress. Chika has been asked to talk about her ideas in many places, including the London School of Economics, Pan-African Parliament, United Nations Development Program, African Union, Social Science Research Council, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, United Nations Public Service Awards Ceremony, and Standard Bank South Africa, among others.
A researcher, teacher, non-fiction and fiction writer, and public intellectual, Chika holds a Ph.D. in African Development and Policy Studies from Howard University in Washington, D.C and is the author of Indigenous Knowledge and Education in Africa (Springer, 2020). She has partnered with diverse organizations on research projects that concern rural Africa and indigenous knowledge. These organizations include the World Bank, the International Development Research Center (IDRC) Canada, United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), among others.
Chika has lived and worked in four countries spread across three continents. Through her travels, Chika has learned to value integrity, dignity, respect for self and others, cooperation over competition, and openness to knowledge. She is presently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Soka University of America on the Acjachemen (Ha-shee-men) Nation’s traditional lands in California. She is the Principal of Julani University and the founder of African Child Press. She is also a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Rwanda.
