Destiny Treloar
Destiny Treloar is a Masters of Environmental Science (MESc) candidate at the Yale School of the Environment focusing on food justice and urban politics. She is working with Dr.Dorceta Taylor at the JEDSI lab. Destiny is very interested in studying the disparities found in food access among Latina/x/e women and developing multifaceted solutions to reduce and eliminate such inequalities. Destiny’s thesis lasers in on the emergency food network in environmental justice communities, concentrating on chronically food insecure Latina/x women’s access. Due to their longstanding history of oppression in the United States food landscape, Latina/x women are particularly vulnerable to experiencing food injustices. Examination of chronically food insecure Latina/x women is absolutely critical to advance the understanding of the systems of power within the emergency food access system that mitigates rates of food insecurity. As a Nicaraguan woman, Destiny is researching her own community, intending to use my findings to improve emergency food access for Latina/x women. Destiny is passionate about uplifting the voices in her home community, especially the women who inspired her to pursue this research.
