Erin Shives is a second-year Master of Environmental Science candidate in Yale School of the Environment. Her research interests include geospatial data analysis, remote sensing, climate extremes, and population vulnerability. As an Environmental Justice Research Fellow and Hixon Urban Fellow, she is currently working on her master’s thesis leveraging geospatial applications to assess multiple natural hazards across metropolitan areas in California under the guidance of Dr. Karen Seto and Dr. Karen Chen, and in collaboration with the California Coastal Commission. In addition to her thesis, she is a research assistant in the Seto Lab working on a NASA funded Environmental Justice project evaluating extreme heat across cities in the United States.
 
Erin graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Sustainability, minor in Spanish, and emphasis in urban watershed analysis. Following graduation, she joined the NASA DEVELOP Program working on several disaster related projects assessing extreme climate conditions using remote sensing applications to support sustainable policy making and resilience.
