Yurok Tribe Natural Resources Division Summer Internship - Regenerative Timber

The Yurok Tribe is the largest federally recognized tribe in Northern California and has recently purchased a small niche mill located in Arcata, California. As part of diversifying the Tribe’s portfolio, the Tribe has started the Yurok Agricultural Corporation and seeks advise of the financial feasibility and strategic plan for the wood products market and supply chain considerations in Northern California. This analysis will include current market opportunities, prospective strategic acquisitions and a recommended strategic plan for the Tribe’s objective of purchasing the supply chain from forest supply, product distribution to sales. The student/s will work directly with the Yurok Agricultural Corporation, CEO and the Natural Resources Division (Carbon Projects and Forestry) staff, when applicable. The Tribe seeks to expand its assets to enhance its economic sovereignty through immediate strategic actions and business modeling in preparing for the transition of the local, state, national and international markets of extractive to regenerative economy options. An NDA is requisite for this project. Also, may have the opportunity to perform other skill-based tasks and assignments as requested.  An NDA is requisite for this project.

Who Can Apply?
  • Graduate/Law/Business students pursuing professional degree. Drivers license required. Ability to work in office, perform research and field work required. 

  • Priority is given to candidates enrolled in a graduate program that is relevant to natural resources management. Highly motivated candidates in the social and natural sciences with training in economics and quantitative methods, or with a keen interest in public policy, tribal affairs are encouraged to apply.   

  • Experience working with geospatial data and conducting regression analyses in R, Python, Stata, or a similar statistical software is required.  

  • Preferred Interests and Skills: Graduate coursework in economics, econometrics, and/or spatial data and analysis
